TORONTO, November 28, 2011 - RBC was recognized as having the Best Overall Corporate Governance in the International category at the annual Corporate Governance Awards held earlier this month in New York. This year marks the first time the awards, hosted by Corporate Secretary Magazine, were open to non-U.S. companies.

RBC's leadership in corporate governance and in particular our approach to subsidiary governance were important factors for the panel of judges. Since 2001, RBC has taken an industry-leading approach to subsidiary governance and the award is an acknowledgement of our accomplishments in this area.

This award builds on the recognition RBC received earlier this year as 2011 winner of IR Magazine's Best Corporate Governance award, and in previous years as 2008 winner of the Conference Board of Canada/Spencer Stuart National Award in Governance and 2007 winner of IR Magazine's Best Corporate Governance award
