Employee Involvement - Andy Lockhart and Mike French
"Like everybody else, we have had friends and family touched by cancer. We think it's important to create a distraction that helps people get through their treatment by focusing on a world they can enjoy. Art a la Carte provides patients and caregivers the chance to think about something other than sickness."
Andy Lockhart and Mike French

Andy and Mike lead the Bow Valley Wealth Management Group of 9 professionals in the Calgary Dome Tower office of RBC Dominion Securities.  Each has over 25 years' industry experience and have been with RBC Dominion Securities since 1988.

Both men are ardent supporters of their community and are involved in many community organizations as both donors and volunteers. They are also skilled and relentless fund-raisers for the causes closest to their hearts - like the effects of cancer on families.

Art à la Carte is a registered charitable organization based in Calgary, Alberta, that delivers artwork to the hospital rooms of long-term care cancer patients. The program, which began as an effort to lift a dying friend's spirits, provides a unique opportunity for patients, visitors, and caregivers to find encouragement and hope by choosing art for their rooms.

In addition to their both doing ‘rounds’ to cheer up patients and help them choose artwork, Andy, a skilled amateur cabinet maker, has built more than one “Carte” for the purpose!

Volunteers have made over 30,000 visits to local facilities over the past eleven years. Adding a personal touch to an impersonal setting helps to restore dignity, provide comfort, and heighten morale for everyone involved with patient care.

Art à la Carte operates in 8 hospitals near Calgary and has spread to 7 others across Canada. The organization is joining forces with Wellspring, the wellness programme for cancer patients, and research on the program benefits will be published soon in a nursing oncology journal.
