RBC Employees Turn Gift into Giving
When Luisa Adams had a chance to send along an extra $20 to her local food bank in Oakville, Ontario, she jumped at the chance.
“Supporting the Kerr Street Community Services food bank is important to me,” said Adams, an administrative assistant at RBC’s Health Care Professionals team in Toronto. “I know it will have a very direct impact on people in my community.”
Adams was one of 4,500 RBC employees in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) who recently received a unique employee appreciation gift for their hard work and dedication to their clients - a special gift card redeemable on-line as an instant $20 contribution to the charity of their choice, anywhere in Canada. The employee card was part of RBC’s Putting Communities FIRST week held in the GTA June 15-23, 2007.
RBC made a total of $90,000 worth of charity donations available to branch and commercial banking employees in the Greater Toronto Area.
To make the $20 charity gift cards happen, RBC partnered with CanadaHelps (www.canadahelps.org ), a not-for-profit organization that allows donors to give on-line to any of Canada’s more than 82,000 registered charities. With RBC’s financial assistance, CanadaHelps was able to use RBC as its first large-scale ‘test-case’ for its on-line gift card option.
Employees responded enthusiastically. Employees’ good causes ran the gamut — from children and wildlife, hospitals and health organizations, to alma maters and environmental causes.
