RBC Children's Mental Health Project

Children's Mental Health One in five Canadians will personally experience mental illness during their lifetime, and almost every Canadian will be affected by mental illness, either directly or indirectly. Yet the stigma associated with mental illness continues to prevent most people from seeking treatment and support.

In Canada, 1.2 million children and youth are affected by mental illness at any given time and 1 in 6 children and adolescents will suffer from a mental illness of sufficient severity to cause significant distress and impaired functioning.

RBC is committed to improving the health and well-being of Canadian children through the RBC Children's Mental Health Project grant program.

Funding and Granting Principals

The field of Children's Mental Health is broad and complex. RBC has chosen to narrow our philanthropic focus to two areas so that our donations can make a significant, measurable impact in helping children have a brighter future. Eligible organizations may apply for a grant for programs that focus on:

  • Early intervention: Programs for children and families that take early action against factors that put children at risk of developing mental health problems.
  • Public education to increase awareness and reduce stigma: Programs that help parents, caregivers, and professionals identify the signs of children's mental health problems, and learn how to take early action leading to prevention.

Grants are available to local, regional and national organizations in Canada. Applications will be accepted throughout the year.

Impact

Our goal is to make a measurable, meaningful social impact through the RBC Children's Mental Health Project. We expect grant recipients to report on how RBC's grant has contributed to improved outcomes for children.
