Two weeks left to apply to be an Olympic Torchbearer through
RBCOver 500 torchbearer spots left to be awarded through RBC's contest
TORONTO, June 30, 2009 — Only two weeks remain
for the chance to be a 2010 Olympic Torchbearer through the
RBC Carry the Torch contest which closes July
15.
"This is the last chance Canadians have to be a 2010
Olympic Torchbearer, be a part of Olympic history and contribute
to the legacy of these Olympic Games through our contest,"
said Jacquie Ryan, director Olympic Marketing, RBC. "On
Canada Day, we invite Canadians to show we can create a better
Canada by making your pledge at rbc.com/carrythetorch
and entering to win this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to
be a 2010 Olympic Torchbearer."
Due to overwhelming response to the contest, RBC has allocated
193 additional spots to its public contest, enabling more
Canadians to carry the Olympic Flame. To be entered in the
final draw to fill the last 533 spots, Canadians should make
their pledge before midnight EDT on July 15, 2009.
The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will begin its journey to Vancouver
on
October 30, 2009, when the flame arrives in Victoria following
a traditional lighting ceremony in Greece. The Olympic Flame
will then travel from coast to coast to coast through every
province and territory in Canada - spanning 45,000 kilometers
and over 1,000 communities over the course of 106 days. It
will end at B.C. Place on
February 12, 2010, with the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron,
signaling the start of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Approximately 12,000 Canadians will carry the flame across
the country at their own pace with millions more cheering
and supporting them. Torchbearer applicants must be residents
of Canada, aged 13 or older. Full contest rules and regulations
are available on the website at rbc.com/carrythetorch.
