RBC to support offshore wind generation projects in the United Kingdom

RBC Capital Markets has announced that it will support the development of offshore wind generation projects in the United Kingdom (UK) in its role as financial adviser to the energy regulator Ofgem. RBC will advise in the tendering of transmission licenses for new offshore wind generation projects. According to the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, up to 33 gigawatts of offshore wind generation could be constructed - enough power for about seven million homes.

Offshore wind power will make a major contribution to the UK's renewable energy targets for 2020. About £12 billion of investment will be needed for the transmission infrastructure to carry this energy ashore.

The first tender process will grant licenses for up to nine wind generation projects with a combined asset value of up to £1.150 billion, underpinning the UK Government's commitment to offshore wind and to tackling climate change.

RBC Capital Markets, a leader in the provision of advice and investment banking services to the global renewables sector, is acting as financial adviser to Ofgem on all nine projects.
