The Seas Beyond: International Expansion

Royal Bank's 68 William Street building, 1950
Royal Bank first moved to this building, located in the heart of New York's financial district, in 1902, when it leased space on the second floor. Royal Bank purchased the building in 1919 where it maintained its United States headquarters until 1988 when the bank's operations moved to nearby Financial Square.

Accountant's department of New York agency, 1946
The Accountant's department was on the main floor of the building, to the right of the main door along the William Street side of the building. It was one of many busy departments at New York agency which in 1946 acted as correspondent in the United States for Royal Bank's head office and branches, was custodian of the bank's U.S. dollar reserves, and was active in international trade financing, to name only a few of its businesses.
